A recent news article has reported that ex-NFL star and current broadcaster Ahmad Rashad and his wife, wealthy socialite Sale Johnson, may be heading for a divorce. Johnson is well-known around South Florida and is the ex-wife of an NFL team owner. She has high assets, with an estimated net worth of $100 million.
Rashad has also found financial success, making an estimated $8 million per year as a national sports broadcaster in addition to the wealth he gained during his football career. Sale is Rashad's fourth wife, so he is not a stranger to divorce proceedings and separation agreements.
The two reside in a lavish estate in Jupiter, Florida, near other sports and entertainment stars, including Tiger Woods. In fact, it may be Rashad's friendship with Woods that has tensions running high in the Rashad-Sale home. Rashad, Woods and former NBA star Michael Jordan are all reported to be palling around frequently, much to Sale's chagrin.
The couple has substantial real estate holdings, including a $10 million apartment in New York City, which could be a key piece in the negotiations over division of assets. Reportedly, the couple signed a prenuptial agreement before they wed in 2007, so it is possible that a lot of the property they came into the marriage with will be divided according to the terms of that agreement.
Diverse assets such as those noted in the case of Rashad and his wife are not uncommon for people in Florida with high net worth. However, these assets can create issues should a couple decide to go their separate ways. In addition to multiple properties, couples may share things such as investments, life insurance policies and business holdings. All of these assets can affect other parts of the divorce, such as child support and alimony. For those considering a high-asset divorce, it can be helpful to work with an experienced attorney to get a full picture of one's interests and build a path toward a fair outcome for all involved.
