Orlando Child Support Attorneys

As in many other states, child support in Florida is determined by child support guidelines (set by the Florida Statutes) that use a formula to calculate the amount of support. However, in order to get the proper amount of support from that formula, the proper numbers must be input.

Our legal team at the office of McMichen, Cinami and Demps has over 20 years of experience handling a range of family law issues, including numerous child support cases for clients in Orlando and throughout Orange and Seminole Counties. We can assist clients, in or outside the context of a divorce, in seeking the amount of child support that their situation requires.

There are a number of important issues that must be determined in the calculation of child support. Our firm can assist you in assessing the following factors (and others that may apply), determining how they affect the calculation of child support:

  • Income of the parties
  • Needs of the child (such as daycare)
  • Timesharing schedule
  • Health insurance (medical and dental)

One aspect of a child support case that is often overlooked is the fact that the amount of child support being paid belongs to the child or children. Parents do not have the right to waive it on behalf of the children. Support shall be paid; however consideration can be given if there is substantial timesharing (over 40%) of overnights. These situations can affect the amount and to which parent the child support is paid.
