Orlando Parenting Plan Attorneys

Florida Parental Responsibility Lawyers

In October of 2008, Florida law replaced the traditional model of child custody, visitation and child support with a comprehensive parenting plan that was designed to clearly map out the rights and responsibilities of each parent after a divorce. The parenting plan consists of three main components: parental responsibility, time sharing and support.

It is important that parents work together to reach an agreement on the parenting plan. If they cannot agree on the key issues, the court will create a plan for them. The court's decision is binding and, once an order is in place, it is very difficult to change. At the Orlando, Florida based law firm of McMichen, Cinami & Demps, we have helped parents throughout central Florida develop parenting plans that meet the needs of everyone involved.

Parental Responsibility

Florida law states that both parents will share parental responsibility equally unless it would be harmful to the child. Shared parental responsibility allows each parent to have an equal say in major decisions that affect the child. Our attorneys will work to ensure that any parenting plan serves the best interests of your children above all else.

The decision-making considerations in a parenting plan might include:

  • Where the child goes to school and other educational decisions
  • Medical procedures and what doctor the child sees
  • Extra-curricular activities and other social issues
